The Philippine Association for Media and Information Literacy (PAMIL) held its election for its new set of officers for 2021-2023 last September 2020 where Dr. Hemmady Mora, current chairperson of the PUP Department of Journalism got the second-highest number of votes from PAMIL members and was elected as Vice President by her co-board members.

She formerly held PAMIL’s post for corporate secretary and was also an elected board member during the first year of the organization. Dr. Mora was one of the founding officers of PAMIL with Dr. Jose Reuben Alagaran as President and Mr. Arnel Ping as Vice President.

Before PAMIL was established, the PUP College of Communication – Department of Journalism in partnership with Abiva Publishing Inc. has conducted Media and Information Literacy seminar-workshops in Cebu, Bacolod, Batangas, and Manila for Senior High

School faculty.

According to Dr. Mora, the results of their seminar

evaluation were

astounding as the demand for training exceeded their

expectations.

“During our initial seminars, Dr. Alagaran saw the need to

pursue PAMIL. With advocacy that carries global and local

significance, it was established successfully,“

she explained.

The organization was launched on January 18-19, 2019 with

the first National Forum on Media Information Literacy held

at the Pugad Lawin Hall, Quezon City Sports Club. PAMIL

held its 2nd National Forum on MIL at De La Salle University

– Taft last January 17-18, 2020.

PAMIL is currently planning their 3rd Virtual National Forum on MIL which will be held in January of 2021.

“When the going gets tough, the tough get going,” this is what Prof. Mora carries in her heart as she carries numerous responsibilities in her hands being the chairperson of PUP-COC’s Department of Journalism and now as Vice President of PAMIL. When asked about her motto in life and how she handles challenges in her profession side by side her responsibilities as mother and wife, Dr. Mora gave her experiential quote.

“When the obstacles along the way get bigger and become giants, I turn to a higher power that transforms me into a David battling against my Goliath. When the going gets tough, I simply turn to the God of the impossible- He who ensures that planets remain in their orbits and the mix of gases on earth remain accurate for human survival. With God’s favour, I am more than a conqueror.”
