Netflix's shows and movies to get you through the quarantine
Words: John Archie Balmes, Khryzztine Joy Baylon, & Regino Morata Jr.
Netflix became most popular when the COVID-19 happened. Well, we're not saying that people were uncultured before all these happened, but come on... everything changed since the ‘normal’ became ‘unusual’.

Of course, we were not spared of the pandemic hurdles, be it physical and most especially our mental state.
Good thing there's Netflix that helps us to go through the lockdown anxieties, we were entertained and our boredom eased... ehem! Attention! This is not an advertisement article but Netflix, beke nemen.

As the pandemic advances, we are enforced to enter another series of lockdown. With all of this, we made a top 5 list of Netflix shows and tv series to binge watch during these tough times. Disclaimer though, some we may not have included synopsis because we don't want to spoil our readers... or maybe, the author is just lazy.
The Platform
-
is a 2019 Spanish social science fiction-horror film directed by Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia. If you are looking for a mind-boggling dystopian thriller - whose plot centers on a platform that goes from top down the bottom to feed residents, who are switched between many floors every 30 days, then this movie is good for you!
Annihilation
-
is a 2018 science fiction-horror film directed and written by Alex Garland, based on the 2014 novel of the same name by Jeff VanderMeer. It stars Padme Amidala, if you don’t know her, we can call her Natalie. If you like movies that center on aliens, mutating animals and plants, force field, human propensity and eventually, uh, self-destruction, then we recommend this for you!
Lady Bird
-
this one is phenomenal. Period.
Metro Manila
-
If you're a fan of indies, then Metro Manila is perfect! The story is about a man who fled from a life of poverty and moves with his family to Manila and falls victim to the hardened locals until he finds work with an armoured car company. Basically, the movie portrays how far a man can go for his family.
Gone Girl
-
if your boyfriend or girlfriend was cheating on you, then, ghurl, this is your bible.

Friends
-
Seriously? You don't know this? It's in every corner of the room! Still available on Netflix, so it's your time to be baptized... before it's too late.
Attack on Titan
-
Sasageyo? Sasageyo! If you like watching giants feasting on vulnerable, wall-protected, thriving humans, then Attack on Titan would not disappoint you... err, except Isayama.
Prison Break
-
oh, boy! This is a masterpiece. Though premiered in 2005, one could not have moved on from this. This follows a story around a man who was sentenced to death for a crime he did not commit and his brother's elaborate plan to help him escape his death sentence.
Violet Evergarden
-
Need a good cry? This anime series is just perfect for that! You will be needing a couple or two of tissue rolls, though. This is a tear-jerker slice of life, drama fantasy which centers on the story of Violet, a soldier of the Great War, who decided to be an auto memory doll after surviving the war and finding the meaning of ‘love’.
The Haunting of Hill House/Bly Manor
-
Fan of jump scares and good horror narration? We recommend you to watch this TV series! The Haunting of Hill House is the first season, followed by Bly Manor as an independent second season. These series do have a lot of twists, so we suggest not to elevate everything from bare minimum, we might spoil you! But overall, these series are worth watching.
